I don’t know about you, but I am finding this quieter period of self-isolation rather restful. So much so that I was beginning to feel a bit like a sloth. I wondered, is that such a bad thing? Let’s have a look at the humble sloth.
While they’re clumsy on land they’re fantastic swimmers, so they know what they’re good at.
They spend most of their time in trees where algae grows on them and turns their fur green. This way they have a natural camouflage. So, they’re very adaptive to their environment.
Sloths are nocturnal so again, they know what suits them.
While they’re accused of being lazy they only sleep about 10 hours a day so, considering their diet consists only of leaves and therefore doesn’t provide a lot of energy, that isn’t too bad. Apparently, in captivity they’ll sleep longer but who can blame them, what else do they have to do?
The big weakness of a sloth is that it urinates and defecates in the same place each time. While this only happens about once a week it makes them vulnerable to an alert predator.

Why am I discussing sloths, you might ask? Apart from the fact that I am feeling a bit slothful in this enforced downtime, I have found it interesting to look to nature to see how an animal makes the most of its environment.
And that is what we all need to do. This has always been the case:-
know your strengths and use them
adapt to your environment to make it work for you
be flexible (unlike the sloth’s toilet habits) in order to protect yourself
get sufficient sleep
And in these very different times make sure you do the things you need to do to not only survive but come out stronger. Many people are:-
enjoying games and jigsaw puzzles together
spending more time in the kitchen
taking up crafts or another new hobby
doing a course
learning to relax
teaching the dog new tricks
sorting out their photos
finding great new online stuff to watch or listen too
So, as you can see, there are plenty of things to do. And it’s a great time to stay in touch with family and friends as everyone seems to have more time now for a chat.
So, for the moment, why not be a bit of a sloth? Take some time off to allow things to just happen.
Feeling a little anxious? Have some family issues which you’d like to resolve? This is the ideal time to use a home rental system. With unlimited sessions this system is available to be rented for either a fortnight or a month. I’m happy to chat to you about the benefits of regular, frequent brain training sessions.
